Iconic and beautiful, Seattle houseboats invoke a feeling of nostalgia, where laughter is fostered and home is just a boat ride away. Synonymous with Seattle and the rich history of its neighborhoods, these locally favorite homes are the perfect place to hang your hat, hold your heart and set sail for adventure without ever leaving the dock. If you are interested in owning a houseboat, these questions and answers can help you decide if these lovely little homes are the right fit for you.
Will my house rock?
Not often. However, when storms roll in, winds pick up or waves grow heavy then you may notice some rocking. Most of the time, you will only truly notice speedboat waves on high traffic holidays like the fourth of July. The police keep watch on speed regulations and ensure that the rules are being observed, especially in houseboat neighborhoods.
What about amenities?
Most houseboat families will need to have a satellite dish although some do have access to cable. You will most often find that necessities such as sewer, electric and water are stocked into your home.
What should I know before buying?
Houseboats, like all homes, require inspection prior to buying. It is just good measure. You can expect to pay about 400 dollars to have yours given a thorough look over. Again, like all homes, you may also have a Home Owner’s Association fee. This will usually include dock upkeep, garbage pickup, etc.
Seattle houseboats are a great place to call home and there is nothing quite like life on the water. From watching the sun drop into the blue, glimmering waves to listening to the rain fall on a gloomy afternoon, come on home to your own piece of nostalgia and start making memories for a life well lived.
