This Saturday (5-28-2016) at 12:30pm PST, TLC will air an episode of My First Home that follows Kaj and Clare as they look for a Houseboat. Kevin & Linda Bagley of Special Agents Houseboats assist them in their search and show them 3 houseboats on Lake Union. This is the 5th Houseboat show that Special Agents Houseboats has participated in over the last 5 years. Houseboats are becoming more and more scarce as people have found the benefits of having waterfront you can put your toes in.
This episode of TLC’s My First Home focuses on Houseboats in Seattle’s Lake Union area. The Houseboat lifestyle is iconic to Seattle and remains one of the least expensive ways to enjoy waterfront property. Living on a houseboat is a more intimate relationship with the water than other waterfront properties. You feel the water, you hear it lapping against the side of the boat, the ducks land on your deck, and you get rocked to sleep by the gentle motion.
Special Agents Houseboats has been listing and selling houseboats and Floating Homes on Lake Union since 2007 and has sold over 90% of all houseboats sold in the last 5 years. The houseboat market is very unique and only a few companies specialize in this unusual property type. Their uniqueness also makes them a bit more challenging than other properties, due to houseboats being a hybrid between a boat and a house.
What makes Houseboats different?
Lending – Currently there is only one lender for Houseboats
Inspections – These involve marine surveyors and sometimes dive inspections
Title – Houseboats typically have Marine title
Insurance – Only a select few companies can insure houseboats
Regulations – Houseboats are regulated in Seattle differently than houses or boats
Locations – Houseboats can be in rented slips, owned slips, long term leases, and condo slips
Hull Types – Houseboats can have Fiberglass over Wood, Aluminum, Steel, and even concrete hulls
These are just some of the differences. Tune in to TLC Saturday 12:30pm to learn more
